Providing a safe environment for teen girls to learn from experienced female fishing mentors, taking with them new inspirations and the confidence that comes acquiring new skills.
Teens are referred by organizations such as PACE and New Horizons of Southwest Florida. The Heels & Reels Fishing Program has provided a day of fishing and fun for 30 girls in 2012 and 28 girls in 2013.
Main Annual Event:
Approximately 30 girls have the opportunity to learn basic fishing skills that include proper catch and release techniques and conservation ethics. Life skills are also an essential element of the day such as: team-work, camaraderie, encouragement and self expression. Local boat owners, captains and crew donate their time and vessels for this on-the-water event. Numerous volunteers lend support from onshore duties to mentoring to capturing the special moments on camera. It is truly a special day for all.
Many girls have expressed an interest to learn more and go fishing on a regular basis. We are now planning for fishing clinics and shoreline fishing outings, in addition to our annual event.
Your donations are what allow us to achieve our mission. You can donate in a number of ways.
